KEY POINTS
Key points
- FSP (Fachsprachprüfung) assesses language communication in a professional context; check your local examining body.
- KP (Kenntnisprüfung) concerns professional knowledge and skills where required by the recognition pathway.
- Identify the actual requirement in your case before choosing training, not the other way round.
FSP (Fachsprachprüfung): language you use in pharmacy.
The Berlin Chamber of Pharmacists describes an examination of comprehension and spoken and written expression. Its local example includes a simulated patient conversation, a written document and communication with a pharmacist or another medical professional. This is a Berlin example, not a fixed description for every federal state.
Suggested preparation: practise understanding a patient’s question, explaining clearly, conveying the information to a colleague and writing it down. Memorising one scenario does not replace the ability to answer unexpected questions.

KP (Kenntnisprüfung): professional knowledge and practice.
The pharmacist examination regulations cover pharmaceutical practice and special legislation for pharmacists, plus a subject specified by the authority from areas with substantial differences. KP is an oral state examination in German, not merely a language test.
Link pharmacological knowledge with counselling, pharmacy situations and professional rules. Selbstmedikation and Beratung are practical training examples here, not a replacement for the officially specified examination scope.

Passing an examination does not settle every other decision.
Good language skills may coexist with a need for scientific preparation, or strong knowledge with a need for better communication. We do not assume every pharmacist needs KP or the same preparation plan. Establish the requirements for your actual case.
Proof of passing an examination does not replace a licence. Before taking up a pharmacist role, check authorisation and conditions, and separately check residence and work requirements where applicable.

How do you compare two courses?
This VERBINDIX comparison checklist helps you choose suitable training; it is not a set of official accreditation criteria.
- Does the course clearly target language, knowledge or revision?
- Does it follow the examining body’s instructions rather than importing another state’s experience?
- Will you receive practice and feedback, not only recorded explanations?
- Are suitable mock examinations and individual error reviews included?
- Are hours, costs and training inclusions clear before you agree?
Write down your answers before choosing preparation.
These details establish your starting point more usefully than the examination name alone.
- Authority, intended federal state and latest official instructions.
- Outstanding requirement and language evidence already available.
- Strengths and weaknesses in understanding, explaining, writing and knowledge.
- Study time and any confirmed examination date; estimates must not become promises.
SOURCE TRANSPARENCY
Sources and references
The official sources below support regulatory information. Interview questions and planning checklists are practical suggestions from VERBINDIX, not government requirements. Do not generalise one federal state’s example to another; check with the competent authority before deciding on your case.
